The allure of prophecy

Personally I do somewhat believe in prophecies but not at all in Sylvia Browne. To be honest, if you’re willing to pay me seven bills for a petty hour conversation, I will predict your whole life and a bit of your afterlife for an extra hundred or two. In my opinion, similar to Macbeth, I feel that once told your fate, you become your fate subconsciously yet still intentionally. For example, if advised that the rest of your life will be miserable, you most likely won’t be making much of an effort to be the perkiest person around your neighbourhood. Although a few may use it as motivation to work harder to be happier I believe that many would use it as a lame excuse to mope around the house with a blanket and bag of Doritos.

These people are perfectly sane in my opinion. Some maybe looking for some fast cash but I do believe that there are a few genuine ones. I find that if you truly do have a power like this, it’s not necessary to publicize it for some form of attention.

I haven’t myself ever gone to a psychic because I think that it’s an utter waste of time, money and a risk for your mental stability as it did drive Macbeth quite crazy. I have known a few people capable of reading palms but I refuse to tamper with such things. Even though there are many prophecies in Islam it is still forbidden to have your own fortune told and I therefore as a Muslim will not take part in any such activities regarding this. As for knowing anyone who has had his or her fortune told; I have not.

Sylvia’s predictions I believe are scientifically and educationally based. You don’t have to be a genius to know that the weather is going to fluctuate; we’ve been damaging the world and ozone layer for quite some time now, it’s inevitable. Tsunamis, Tornadoes, volcanoes, flooding, earthquakes it’s our own fault I don’t need a supernatural force to tell me that. Brad and Angelina splitting up? Come on, if you’re going to predict things at least TRY to be original. How many celebrity relationships REALLY last? I can’t count more than a few on one hand off the top of my head.
Sylvia’s predictions are way too broad and I would rather take advise from that thing growing limbs under my bed (dust bunny). Let’s be realistic though, Montel’s show wouldn’t be able to survive if it wasn’t for his consistent supernatural guest Sylvia. This does seem like a good money making business though. I may just have to reconsider my career opportunities.

Introduction

Hey everyone, my name is Farah and I'm a grade eleven student currently attending Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute. I created this blog in order for me to communicate with my 11U English class outside of school premises. This weblog will be dedicated to posting any English assignments and/or any related topics. Although, there will most likely be a few posts laying around here regarding my random thoughts on basically anything. So, I hope that you enjoy and any feedback would be great. =)
